Kindergarten Announcements
ELA
We continued learning to find the main idea and details of
informational texts about trains. We also learned about the
different parts of trains and about the engineers that operate
the train from the locomotive’s cab. We practiced blending
words with short and long /u/ sounds and read the words .
Math
In this week’s lessons, students see the numbers 11–19 as 10
ones and some more ones. They composed and decomposed
teen numbers and recorded the compositions and decompositions
with objects, drawings, and expressions and equations. Students
used fingers and 10-frames to represent these numbers. To
represent a teen number, they filled a 10-frame and showed
some more ones, which they arranged in different ways. To
determine the number of objects, students counted all or counted
on from 10.

Science: None
Rainbow Words
Please keep practicing these important words at home
every night.
Centers:
We made leprechauns, counted gold pieces, assembled Dr. Suess
puzzles, and practiced blending using green markers, and used mini
locomotives to practice making teen numbers.
Report Cards:
As report cards arrive home this weekend, please be aware that
standards reflect end of year expectations. It is common for your
child to have several 1’s on their report cards. Additionally,
NWEA scores are based on midyear growth. Please remember
that growth happens at different rates for kindergarteners.
All academic concerns have already been addressed at conferences.
Tinker Time:
We are filling our star jar to earn tinker time! I will need some help with this. Please send in your empty paper towel tubes, tp tubes, clean lids from jars, unused craft supplies, etc. We will let imaginations run wild with this fun time to create!
Sarett Nature Center
On March 12th, we will be riding the bus to Sarett Nature Center to learn about Maple trees and maple syrup. We cannot fit parents on the bus due to three classes. If you are interested in joining us on this field trip, you are welcome to meet us at Sarett no later than 10 AM using your own transportation. Please let me know if you plan to attend so that we can be ready to meet you. Please be prepared to pay the entrance fee as well.
