Please send in 20 cards with only your child’s name on

each card (do not fill out the “to” section of the cards please).

Students will hand out cards during the party as one of

Rainbow Words

We sent home color-coded lists High Frequency Words in folders last week.  (I will post the link to a digital copy too).  Please practice reading these words with your child at home.  A volunteer parent will come in once a week to listen to your child read the list of words. When your child can read all the words correctly on all six lists, they will receive a bag of Skittles as a reward. I look forward to handing out lots of Skittles this May (or sooner)

Ice Skating:

We will be going ice skating with our 4th grade buddies on February 3.  We will leave Lincoln at 2:20 to walk to the ice arena.  We will need many volunteers to meet us there around 2:30 to help with putting on skates.  Please make sure your child has all their snow gear to bundle up for this fun activity. We will be retuning to Lincoln right at our pick up time, 3:40. We will have to get backpacks from inside then I will bring them out for pick up. Please fill out this form to help us with skate sizes.

ELA

Students listened to The Snowy Day and learned to identify the story’s characters and settings. We identified the clothing and activities of the main character and then made charts about the clothing and activities that are appropriate during other kinds of weather.  Students participated in a shared writing to create a character and setting for the class weather story.

Finally we learned Kk, Jk, Zz, and the new sight words her, and his

Math

Students acted out and told stories to demonstrate addition and subtraction.  We told stories about classmates playing at recess and then wrote numbers to represent the action in the story problems.  Students acted out and represented stories that don’t include a question. This encourages students to think about the context and the action in the story without feeling pressure to solve the problem.  Later in the week we used our fingers to count two groups and add them together.

P2:  None

Science:

In this lesson, students discovered that there are pushes and pulls involved in any kind of work, including the work done by machines. In the activity, Be a Digging Machine, students pretended to use shovels and excavators to dig a hole for a swimming pool.

Centers:

We graphed and counted M&M’s, practiced writing numbers in order, practiced adding one and subtracting one, and made New Years firework art.
