Kindergarten Announcements
ELA
We had a great week reading more books about kindergarten. We read The Big Orange Splot and used markers to decorate our own house to look like our dreams. We practiced turning and talking to a partner for a fun way to answer questions cooperatively and learn from each other! We also learned to read quietly and build stamina so that we can begin small group learning. Finally, we tallied the letters in our names and then created a graph to show how many students had the same number of letters. We recalled that Chrysanthemum’s name had 13 letters in her name!
Math
We “noticed”, “wondered”, and “explored” a variety of math tools. We worked with connecting cubes, pattern blocks, counters/5 frames, and geo blocks. Students learned to feel confident sharing their ideas and to be respectful while listening to others.
Centers
We began rotating our table centers this week. Each student played a shape game, made a sticker counting book, matched letters, played with playdough, and put together puzzles.
P2
We will spend this year learning how to build strong relationships with each other through our Positivity Project. We will do this by practicing the “Other People’s Mindset” and learning about a different character strength each week.
Next week
We are planning to begin the first Kindergarten reading and math NWEA assessments next week. Please make sure your child has working headphones to use with their ipads. Please do not send earbuds or bluetooth headphones.
