Kindergarten Announcements
ELA
We began our first unit this week which included looking closely at the book “Toys Galore”. We learned what the word “attribute” means and described toys using different “attributes” such as color, size, shape, and texture. We learned that it’s important to ask questions when we don’t understand a word we read. We can also look at the pictures and listen to the other words to help us understand a new word. Finally, we learned that in a conversation, we must take turns talking and listening. We practiced having conversions during our playtime and as a whole group by raising our hand quietly and waiting to speak.
Math
Students learned to look for small groups of objects and name how many without counting. We developed one to one correspondence and learned to act out number stories.
P2
We learned about being open-minded and how much fun it can be to try new things. We also learned that it’s important to be optimistic about the future and not give up hope that good things will happen. .
Library
Students checked out a book for the first time this week. Please read it at home and remember to send it back every Friday. Sometimes it is easiest to store the book in your child’s backpack as you read it throughout the week.
Assessments/screenings
We finished NWEA testing, individual assessments, and a Delta math screener to gather important information on what your child already knows and how best we can teach them important essential skills.
