   Kindergarten Announcements

ELA

This week we read more about Molly Lou Melon and all of the homemade toys that she made just like her grandma.  We talked about the word “amazed” and that homemade toys can be truly amazing!  We learned how to make a phone from empty cans and continued to compare the homemade toys with the store bought toys.  We concluded that using our imagination makes all toys more fun!

Students started learning letter names and sounds.  They also participated in phonological awareness activities (such as rhyming) and practiced spelling sight words using the sounds /a/ and /m/.  (see the list of sight words below)

Math

The students enjoyed activities that helped them practice counting collections of objects, use one-to-one correspondence, and discover strategies for keeping track of which objects have been counted.  The students were provided tools to help them find the strategy that makes the most sense to them.

P2:  Optimism

Optimism represents a state of hopefulness and confidence about the future People with this strength are future oriented. They keep a positive attitude despite setbacks — and often find ways to convert what seems like an obstacle into a stepping-stone to achieve their goals .

Library

Students checked out a book for the first time this week.  Please read it at home and remember to send it back every Friday.  Sometimes it is easiest to store the book in your child’s backpack as you read it throughout the week.
