Kindergarten Announcements
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone! I am very grateful for the opportunity to teach and care for your child. I am also thankful to all of you for the support you give your child and our school
ELA
We read a new book called Weather Explore My World and learned to find the Main Idea and key details by using picture clues and listening closely to the text. We learned details about the sun, clouds, weather tools, and rainbows. Ask your kindergartener what an anemometer is and why you can always find a windsock at a football stadium. 🙂
We also learned to identify Cc and Gg and read the new words are, you, and as.
Math
We described and drew different shapes using dot paper. We found shapes around our classroom and even made shapes with straws. We also counted out pattern blocks and made quilt patterns and explored putting together pattern blocks with sides touching to form larger shapes.
P2: Gratitude
Being thankful for what we have is something that we can practice every day. We sang songs about being thankful and learned that it’s important to tell others thank you for the things we receive.
Science: None
Centers:
We made Thanksgiving words with magnetic letters, Thanksgiving food with connecting cubes, completed color-by-sight word sheets, and played math games on our ipads.
Sight Words:
I, am, a, the, an, and, is, of, go, no, so, to, do, my, said, into, that, not, she, he, me, as, you, are
Snow Gear Reminders
Please remember that students must have boots and snowpants to play in the snow during recess. Students who do not have boots and snow pants will get to enjoy playing on the blacktop. It is very helpful to send a "snow bag" (in addition to their backpack) to carry their snow gear to and from school. This allows them to keep everything in one place. The bag should be large enough to fit everything (including boots) inside easily. Also...please be sure to send indoor shoes to school if they are wearing boots during arrival.
We will continue to go over procedures at school as you continue to work on dressing independently for the snow at home. Thanks so much! This is the procedure we teach at school.

Special Note: if there is not snow on the ground, you do not need to send snow gear.
Holiday Fun:
Kindergarten classes will be decorating gingerbread houses on December 12! We are so excited to give your child this fun experience. However, we do need parent helpers. We could use 2-3 volunteers on Tuesday or Wednesday (December 10,11) to assemble and glue the gingerbread houses to milk cartons. I also need about 6 parents to assist at tables while the students are decorating the houses (December 12). Please email me if you are willing to help. Thanks!
