Kindergarten Announcements
ELA
We read two new books this week about trains. We compared
and contrasted the trains’ journeys, their challenges, and what
they were pulling. We learned to read little, like, each. We
also started reading and writing words with the medial short
“i” and listening for long”i” in words.
Math
We introduced the 10-frame this week, and explored the
many ways to make 10.
P2: Being Present and Giving Others Your Attention.
Being present and giving others my attention means that when
I’m with other people, I’m present and give them my full attention.
Just like plants need sunlight to grow, our relationships need
attention. If we don’t give our attention to the people we’re
building relationships with — whether family members, close
friends, or even distant colleagues — we can’t build those
relationships. It’s vitally important that we pick our heads
up from our cell phones and truly listen to other people
when they’re talking. A positive culture is built with
positive relationships — and we can’t build positive
relationships without attention.
Science: Force Olympics: This week, students learned
a key idea about forces: how pushes can change the direction
and speed of an object’s movement. We learned how some
mountain towns in danger of landslides can build structures
to protect themselves from falling rocks. Students designed
and tested their own solutions to redirect falling boulders
away from their town and toward a waiting dump truck.
