Kindergarten Announcements
ELA
This week we started a fresh new module about Trains.
We read a book called Three Little Engines before we
compared and contrasted the 3 engines in the book. We
also listened to different sounds and matched them to
pictures of trains. Finally we learned that there are
different sounds that the letter “a” makes. We learned
about closed syllables and that the letter “a” sounds different
coming before /n/ than before /t/. We also read the words all
and says and they.
Math
This week students compose and decompose numbers to 9.
They worked with physical objects like connecting cubes to show
different ways to make and break apart numbers. Finally,
students learned to write expressions to record compositions
and decompositions.
P2: Appreciate the good in others:
To see the good in others, we must first slow down and take the
time to pay attention. Look for the intentions behind people’s
words and actions. If you feel slighted, you can use perspective
and ask, “Did that person intend to hurt me or did he/she just
come across as awkward?” It’s also useful to see the skills and
character strengths others possess. Doing so leverages your
appreciation of excellence and strengthens your leadership capacity.
Science: Force Olympics: We listened to a story about a boy
who learns the secret to knocking down pins during bumper bowling.
Kindness Party/Valentines: Feb. 13, 11:00-12:00pm
(half day)
Please remember to send in 21 cards with only your child’s name
on each card (do not fill out the “to” section of the cards please).
Students will hand out cards during the party as one of the centers.
Rainbow Words
We sent home six color-coded lists of High Frequency Words in
folders on Friday. (I will post the link to a digital copy too).
Please practice reading these words with your child at home.
We have a volunteer parent who will come in on Monday to listen
to your child read the list of words. When your child can read all
the words correctly on all six lists, they will receive a bag of Skittles
as a reward. I look forward to handing out lots of Skittles this May
(or sooner)
Centers:
We made Clifford valentines, played a race to 100 game, learned about
force by swinging a “wrecking ball” to knock over cups, and made
Valentine bags for our Valentine Party (on Friday)
