Kindergarten Announcements
ELA
We completed our weather module this week and worked again
withdigraphs /sh/, /th/, /ch/ and learned to read the words look
and good. We also split into three groups based on individual needs.
Some students are working on phonological awareness, some are blending/segmenting words, and others are reading decodable passages
and illustrating them. If your child brings home a decodable book,
please encourage them to read it again to you or other family members.
Math
Students are learning to make and break apart numbers to 9. They
made designs with pattern blocks and counted how many of each
pattern block they used. We also celebrated the 100th day of school
and enjoyed fun activities that include the number 100.
P2: Love
Love is all around us but you may have to look a little closer to
find it. Your friendships are a great way to experience love. You
care for your friends and look out for them, always wanting them
to be happy. Your friends show love to you in the same way.
Science: .
Our key idea for this week is that by playing with and thinking
about forces, people can accomplish surprisingly big things.
For example, this week we solved the mystery, “How can you
knock down a wall made of concrete?”
Kindness Party/Valentines: 11:00-12:00pm (half day)
Please send in 20 cards with only your child’s name on each card
(do not fill out the “to” section of the cards please). Students will
hand out cards during the party as one of the centers.
Rainbow Words
Please continue to practice reading high frequency words with your child. A volunteer parent will come in once a week to listen to the students read the lists. Your child will be bringing a list of words to work on after they read the lists to our volunteer. When your child can read all the words correctly on all six lists, they will receive a small bag of skittles as a reward. I look forward to handing out lots of Skittles!
Centers:
We practiced counting by 10’s and writing 2-digit numbers,
played “sight word memory”, completed winter
patterns, and wrote our own version of “I Know a
Cold Lady”.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Beginning the week of February 9th, I will be meeting with parents for winter/spring conferences. It has been our policy the past few years to only meet with those students who need extra support in academic areas or behavior. I will be reaching out to you via a Rooms message by Wednesday, February 4th if I would like to meet with you this winter/spring. If you do not receive an email, that means that your child is doing well academically and has little to no behavior concerns that need to be addressed. IF you would still like to meet with me, I am happy to do that. Please email me by this Wednesday, February 4th and we can set up a time to meet and discuss your concerns. Students will be a part of these conferences, just like they were in the fall. Thanks!
